ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective: family-centered care during invasive procedures has been endorsed by many professional health care organizations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health professionals' attitudes towards parental presence during their child's invasive procedure. Method: pediatric healthcare providers (divided in professional categories and range of ages) from one of the Spain's largest hospitals were asked to complete a questionnaire and write free-text comments. Results: 227 responded the survey. Most (72%) participants, in their answers, reported that parents are sometimes present during interventions, although there were differences between professional categories in this respect. The procedures in which the parents were present were those considered "less invasive" (96% of cases), while only 4% were present in those considered "more invasive". The older the professional, the less necessary parental presence was considered. Conclusion: the attitudes towards parental presence during pediatric invasive procedure are influenced by the professional category, the age of the healthcare provider and the invasiveness of the procedure.


Resumo Objetivo: o atendimento centrado na família durante procedimentos invasivos tem sido endossado por muitas organizações profissionais de saúde. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as atitudes dos profissionais de saúde em relação à presença dos pais durante o procedimento invasivo realizado em seus filhos. Método: os prestadores de serviços de saúde pediátricos (divididos em categorias profissionais e faixa etária) de um dos maiores hospitais da Espanha foram solicitados a preencher um questionário e escrever comentários de texto livre. Resultados: a pesquisa foi respondida por 227 pessoas. A maioria (72%) dos participantes, em suas respostas, relatou que os pais algumas vezes estão presentes durante as intervenções, embora houvesse diferenças entre as categorias profissionais a esse respeito. Os procedimentos em que os pais estavam presentes eram aqueles considerados "menos invasivos" (96% dos casos), enquanto apenas 4% estavam presentes naqueles considerados "mais invasivos". Quanto mais velho o profissional, a presença dos pais foi considerada menos necessária. Conclusão: as atitudes em relação à presença dos pais durante o procedimento pediátrico invasivo são influenciadas pela categoria profissional, a idade do prestador de serviço de saúde e a invasividade do procedimento.


Resumen Objetivo: la atención centrada en la familia durante procedimientos invasivos ha sido respaldada por muchas organizaciones profesionales dedicadas al cuidado de la salud. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las actitudes de los profesionales de la salud con respecto a la presencia de los padres durante los procedimientos invasivos realizados en niños. Método: a los prestadores de atención médica en Pediatría (divididos en categorías profesionales y rangos de edad) de uno de los hospitales más importantes de España se les solicitó que respondieran un cuestionario y redactaran comentarios de texto libre. Resultados: un total de 227 profesionales respondieron la encuesta. En sus respuestas, la mayoría (72%) de los participantes informó que, en ocasiones, los padres están presentes durante las intervenciones, aunque se registraron diferencias entre las distintas categorías profesionales al respecto. Los procedimientos en los que los padres estuvieron presentes se consideraron como "menos invasivos" (96% de los casos), mientras que solamente el 4% estuvo presente en los considerados "más invasivos". A mayor edad de los profesionales, menos necesaria se consideró la presencia de los padres. Conclusión: las actitudes con respecto a la presencia de los padres durante procedimientos pediátricos invasivos se vieron influenciadas por la categoría profesional, la edad del prestador de salud y la invasividad de los procedimientos.

ABSTRACT

Introducción. La malaria, o paludismo, es una enfermedad de gran impacto en la población colombiana, que debe ser abordada desde el punto de vista del trabajo en equipo de instituciones para el intercambio de conocimiento. Objetivo. Analizar las interacciones de la Red de Gestión del Conocimiento, Investigación e Innovación en Malaria de Colombia. Materiales y métodos. Se hizo un análisis de redes sociales que permitió identificar la proximidad entre los actores y el grado de conocimiento entre ellos; se observaron indicadores de densidad, diámetro, distancia media y centralidad de grado. El corpus documental para el estudio estuvo constituido por 193 documentos técnicos publicados entre el 2016 y el 2021, que fueron analizados empleando técnicas de procesamiento de texto mediante el lenguaje de programación R. La categorización de la red se realizó a partir de cinco variables: atención integral a pacientes, diagnóstico, epidemiología y sistemas de análisis de información en salud, política pública, y promoción y prevención. Resultados. El análisis de las interacciones indicó que la red la conformaban 99 actores, de los cuales 97 (98 %), mostraron más interés en la producción de conocimientos en epidemiología y sistemas de análisis de información en salud, seguido de la categoría de atención integral a pacientes con 79 (80 %). El 54 % de los actores llevó a cabo estudios de promoción y prevención, siendo esta la categoría de menor abordaje. Conclusiones. Este estudio contribuye al fortalecimiento de estrategias clave en la divulgación del conocimiento sobre la malaria en Colombia.


Introduction: Malaria is a disease with a high impact on Colombian population, which must be approached from the point of view of teamwork of institutions for knowledge exchange. Objective: To analyze the interactions of the Red de Gestión del Conocimiento, Investigación e Innovación en Malaria de Colombia. Materials and methods: An analysis of social networks was applied that allowed identifying the proximity between actors and the degree of knowledge between them. Indicators of density, diameter, average distance, and degree of centrality were observed. The documentary corpus for the study consisted of 193 technical documents published between 2016 and 2021, which were analyzed using text mining using the R programming language. The network was categorized based on five variables: comprehensive patient care, diagnosis, epidemiology and health information analysis systems, public policy and promotion and prevention. Results: The analysis of interactions indicated that the network was made up by 99 actors. The main interest in knowledge production was on epidemiology and health information analysis systems (98 % of the actors), followed by the integral patient care (80 % of the actors). On the contrary, the least approached category was malaria promotion and prevention practices (54 % of the actors). Conclusions: In general, this study contributes to the strengthening of key strategies in the dissemination of knowledge about malaria in Colombia.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar o efeito da estratégia de simplificação sintática de textos sobre o desempenho em compreensão leitora de escolares de 20 a 40 ano do ensino fundamental. Métodos Estudo transversal, analítico, caso controle. Participaram 112 escolares do ensino público, do 20 ao 40 ano escolar. Os participantes foram distribuídos em Grupo TO - expostos ao texto expositivo original e Grupo TS - expostos ao texto simplificado. Os grupos foram pareados segundo acurácia e não diferiram quanto à capacidade de compreensão leitora. O texto original foi submetido às seguintes modificações sintáticas: divisão de sentenças complexas, simplificação de marcadores discursivos, supressão de voz ativa e anáforas, inversão na ordem de cláusulas, com deslocamento da sentença principal para o início e utilização exclusiva da ordenação sujeito-verbo-objeto. Para atestar a simplificação, utilizou-se a ferramenta computadorizada CohMetrix-Port. A análise da compreensão por meio dos recontos dos textos lidos computou o total de ideias (centrais, detalhes) e de enlaces recontados. Resultados A análise comparativa dos grupos identificou diferenças quanto ao total de ideias centrais (U=1029,5, p=0,001), de detalhe (U=599,5, p=0,000) e total de ideias recontadas (U=1247,5, p=0,041), com melhor desempenho para o Grupo TS. A análise da escolaridade mostrou que o 30 e o 40 ano mais se beneficiaram da simplificação sintática. Conclusão A simplificação dos textos, atestada pelos parâmetros do CohMetrix-Port, produziu efeitos de facilitação sobre o processamento microestrutural do texto de escolares do 30 e 40 anos do ensino fundamental, promovendo maior retenção das ideias.


ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate the effects of Syntactic text simplification on the reading comprehension performance of Elementary School students. Methods Cross-sectional, analytical, case-control study. Study participants were 112 students regularly enrolled in the 2nd-4th grades of public Elementary Schools. Participants were divided into two groups: Group OT - students exposed to the original expository text and Group ST - students exposed to the simplified expository text. The groups were matched for accuracy and did not differ with respect to reading comprehension capacity. The simplified text was obtained by submitting the original text to the following syntactic modifications: separation of complex sentences, simplification of discursive markers, suppression of active voice and anaphora, inversion of clause order with displacement of the main clause to the beginning of the sentence, and exclusive use of the subject-verb-object order. Text simplification was verified using the Coh-Metrix-Port computational tool. Comprehension analysis through retell of the texts read determined the total of ideas (central and detailed) and retold links. Results Comparative analysis of the groups identified differences between the total of central, detailed and retold ideas, with the best performance observed in the Group ST. Students from 3rd and 4th grades benefitted the most from syntactic simplification. Conclusion Text syntactic simplification, verified by the Coh-Metrix-Port parameters, facilitated the micro-structural text processing of 3rd and 4th grade students, promoting greater retention of ideas.

ABSTRACT

The process of reading words depends heavily on efficient visual skills, including analyzing and decomposing basic visual features. Surprisingly, previous reading-related studies have almost exclusively focused on gross aspects of visual skills, while only very few have investigated the role of finer skills. The present study filled this gap and examined the relations of two finer visual skills measured by grating acuity (the ability to resolve periodic luminance variations across space) and Vernier acuity (the ability to detect/discriminate relative locations of features) to Chinese character-processing as measured by character form-matching and lexical decision tasks in skilled adult readers. The results showed that Vernier acuity was significantly correlated with performance in character form-matching but not visual symbol form-matching, while no correlation was found between grating acuity and character processing. Interestingly, we found no correlation of the two visual skills with lexical decision performance. These findings provide for the first time empirical evidence that the finer visual skills, particularly as reflected in Vernier acuity, may directly contribute to an early stage of hierarchical word processing.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate eye movement patterns of adults normal readers, while reading texts with two different degrees of difficulty, and with three distinct texts: everyday situations, textbooks and newspapers. Twenty-four participants read texts aloud while monocular eye movements were recorded and answered questions related to text comprehension. Results indicated that the average reading time by word, number of ocular fixations and number of regressive saccades, varied according to complexity and theme of texts. Data were discussed considering the increase in cognitive demand required for reading comprehension, such as semantic integration skills, working memory and the occurrence of inferences. This data can help in the construction of assessment tools for subjects with developmental dyslexia.


O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar padrões de movimentos oculares de adultos bons leitores durante a leitura de textos com dois níveis de dificuldades e com três tipos de conteúdo: situações cotidianas, textos didáticos e jornalísticos. Vinte e quatro participantes leram os textos em voz alta enquanto o movimento monocular foi gravado e responderam a questões relacionadas à compreensão dos textos. Resultados indicam aumento da média de tempo de leitura por palavra, do número de fixações e de sacadas regressivas de acordo com a complexidade e o assunto do texto. Os dados foram discutidos em função do aumento de demanda cognitiva e utilizados para a compreensão do texto, como habilidades de integração semântica, memória de trabalho e inferências. Esses dados auxiliam na construção de instrumentos de avaliação para indivíduos disléxicos.


Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo investigar los patrones de movimiento oculares de adultos buenos lectores en textos con dos niveles de dificultad y tres tipos de contenido: situaciones cotidianas, libros de texto y textos periodísticos. Veinticuatro participantes leyeron los textos en voz alta com grabacion de movimiento monocular en cuanto respondían a preguntas de comprensión. Resultados indican aumento del tiempo promedio de lectura por cada palabra, número de fijaciones y sacadas regresivas oscilaron según la complejidad y el contenido del texto. Los datos fueron discutidos de acuerdo com el aumento de la demanda cognitiva necesaria para la comprensión del texto como las habilidades de integración semántica, memoria de trabajo y deducciones. Estos datos ayudan en la construcción de instrumentos de evaluación para sujetos disléxicos.

ABSTRACT

To clarify that the psychosocial factors affect the eye strain of the VDT workers, self-reporting questionnaire about eye strain, critical flicker fusion(CFF), and 12-item version of General Health Questionnaire(GHQ) were carried out to 13 female VDT workers who have done the electronic editing and 10 female controls who were nurses in one hospital. The sum of eye symptoms of VDT workers were significantly higher than controls, but CFF of both groups were not different. And the sum of eye symptoms and CFF were not correlated. High stress group(sum of GHQ > 3) shows significantly more eye symptoms than low stress group. This result suggest that the psychosocial factors could affect the eye strain of VDT workers.
